Phil Lywood - Architectural Designer

Phil Phil has been involved in construction through design with a hands on approach for the last 8 years. Earning his Bachelor of Science in Architecture and M.Arch degrees at Lawrence Technological University.

While studying full time he worked as a full time general contractor gaining practical knowledge as well as intellectual-theory based studies. After completing his Master’s degree, he spent three months backpacking Europe gaining a greater appreciation for architecture and design. Once returning he re-located to Toronto, Ontario and began working for a Global Fortune 500 Company working on ultra-modern high rise condominiums. His professional path has led him back to Michigan with many stops along the way including working as a design-build general contractor and a structural designer.

Phil greatly appreciates design and construction as a whole. Working with clients from initial meetings to substantial completion allows for friendships to be made and makes the construction process extra special.

In his time away from work, Phil enjoys spending time at home with his wife Melissa and Miniature Schnauzer, Piper. He enjoys playing hockey, baseball and lounging in the pool as much as possible. After backpacking he continues to have a travel bug and hopes to continue to travel and gain positive experiences.

Dawn Orzech - Interior Designer - B.I.D.

Dawn A longtime resident of Plymouth, Michigan, Dawn has earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Eastern Michigan University. In addition to her education, she offers many years of practical design experience, as well as a background in furniture manufacturing. This experience enables her to produce design solutions that incorporate “the tricks of the trade” that offer efficient and cost effective solutions for any project.

"Space planning and creating functional design options for a client is what I truly enjoy. The essence of a well-designed space is being able to visualize the options for the space and produce a design that meets or exceeds a client's needs and vision".

Nicole Shue - Interior Designer

Nicole Nicole is a native of Marine City, MI and an Eastern Michigan University graduate. With her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and 15 years of remodeling experience, Nicole brings fresh designs and a keen eye for detail. She excels at kitchen and bath design, however she also enjoys designing basements and custom furniture. With her savvy design sense and her English Bulldog, Lola, Nicole is the perfect fit for your next design!

Bryan Rouhan - Project Architect, Assoc. AIA

Bryan Smiley, cheerful and a real people pleaser. Give him some caffeine and be ready to have your ear talked off. After graduation from University of Detroit Mercy in 2002, Bryan worked construction in many fields before moving to Maryland. He worked in the historic district of Annapolis for 10 1/2 years in an Architecture firm before returning back home. He is working on attaining additional licensing and accreditation to further his passion for architecture as he starts continues his career at Cowdin. In his free time Bryan draws, paints, wood-works and fixes up his new home. Free time is limited with a beautiful wife of 13 years, 7 year old cute and in charge daughter and 2 dogs that keep him busy and happy.

Rick Ward - Project Manager

Rick Rick graduated from college with a degree in Graphic Design. He grew up in Livonia and has lived in Plymouth since 1986. Rick has always been involved with the Plymouth community with over seventeen years as a youth hockey coach and a current member of the Plymouth Lions Club with over 25 years of experience including many terms on the Board of Directors and as club President.

Rick adds many years of remodeling experience to our team with over 24 years as the Owner of Richard Ward Builders, one of Plymouth's premier remodeling companies. Rick has always had a passion for building, and especially remodeling, who started out as a do it yourselfer who would remodel his own homes prior to the start of his professional remodeling career.

Rick lives in Plymouth with his wife of over 29 years, Joyce, and together they have three children and a yellow Labrador named Echo.

Outside of work, Rick is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing and his time spent at his cabin up north.

David Szurpicki - Project Manager

David David has been building and renovating homes in southeast Michigan for 16 years. With a passion for fine carpentry David enjoys building unique custom homes. He has worked in all facets of home building, starting as a laborer and working his way up to a finish carpenter, and now Project Manager. He has extensive knowledge of all the ins and outs of the speciality trades as well and is excited to be a part of the Cowdin Team.

Originally from Clarkston Michigan, he met his wife while they both were working at Habitat for Humanity in Ann Arbor. They moved to Plymouth in 2015 before the birth of their daughter in 2016. When not working, David enjoys spending time with his family up north at their family cottage. With a fondness for the outdoors he enjoys hunting, fishing, camping or most anything that gets him outside.

Dana Orzech - Office Manager

Dana Dana has been with Cowdin Design + Build since 2015, overseeing all the administrative functions in the office. She directly handles all financial matters such as client billings, accounts payable, payroll, banking and all functions to keep the office running smoothly. If you have a “money” question, she’s your gal! Also, direct any administrative issues you have her way and she’d be happy to help you.

Bill Cowdin - Principal

Bill Bill has been building and remodeling, both hands on and hands off since the late 1980's. For fun as a child he would spend countless hours designing houses with detailed facades, elaborate kitchens and unique niches. He worked his way through high school and college as an apprentice carpenter. Earning his Bachelor of Business Administration at Northwood University, he graduated Cum Laude with dual majors in Finance and Business Management. During his senior year of college, he spent three months travelling through Europe learning about the architecture and history of The Masters. An ever-growing passion for architecture and construction found him employed at a large full service remodeling firm in 2000; while there he worked his way through all facets of the industry from design to sales to project management. In 2008, after spending 8 years at that firm, he founded Cowdin Design + Build, growing his small company from a home office and a staff of one to a beautiful downtown Plymouth office and employing skilled carpenters, tradespeople, designers and architects.

Bill has a devotion to all facets of building; from conceptual design, through the analytical detail architectural stage all the way to completion. He also enjoys the more tedious number crunching side and working on the marketing of the business.

In his time away from work, Bill likes travelling and spending time with his family and Bernese Mountain Dogs, Annabelle and Sebastian. He enjoys SCUBA diving, cycling, cross-country & downhill skiing, whitewater rafting, camping and most any board game out there! He is an avid supporter of The Make-A-Wish Foundation and rides in their annual 300 mile Wish-A-Mile bicycle ride across Michigan.

Annabelle - HR Manager

Annabelle Annabelle is our "Company HR Manager", in charge of hugs, pets and cuddles. She comes to work everyday with a smile on her face and a wag in her tail, ready to greet our clients at the door! She is the 5 year old Bernese Mountain dog of Principal, Bill Cowdin and when not allowed to come to work sulks at home. You will see her at the office, with Bill as he drives to jobsites and occasionally walking down the street when someone needs some "I just need a walk" time!
